For the painting above, “Forest Magnifique”, I was asked to do a commissioned painting for a couple building a home in the mountains. They wanted a whimsical painting of a deer wearing a jaunty hat with flowers. This couple has an intense love for family, and an extraordinary commitment to community. I wanted the painting to have a real sense of place. I researched local flowers, birds, butterflies and dragonflies. The local Stellar Jay is in a nest representing the home they’ve created. They have 3 grown children so I put 4 keys on the ring representing 4 households that make up this family.
